This program will include a twenty minute presentation by economist Dr. Sung Won Sohn regarding global economic markets and implications for boards, citizens, and investors. The presentation will be followed by a panel of corporate directors considering the significance of related economic and political policies and trends identified in the presentation.
Dr. Bogart is currently a director of Mohawk Industries (MHK); a NYSE listed floor covering firm; Michelman, Inc., a private specialty chemicals company; and ZBE Inc., a private digital printer firm. Last July, she completed her service as a director of Monolithic Power Systems (MPWR), a NASDAQ listed semiconductor firm. She was formerly a senior executive of Eastman Kodak Company. She is a National Association of Corporate Directors Board Leadership Fellow and was recognized in the 2016 “Directorship 100". She is a Trustee of Fielding Graduate University. Further, she is President of Smith Bogart Consulting and a lecturer in the University of California at Santa Barbara Technology Management Program. She has authored articles on board influence in sustainability and social responsibility.
Ray Link served as executive vice president and CFO of FEI Company from 2005 to 2015. FEI is a leading supplier of instruments for the semiconductor and oil and gas industries and scientific applications. Before joining FEI, Ray was the CFO of TriQuint Semiconductor from 2001 to 2005 and the CFO of Sawtek Inc. from 1995 to 2001 when Sawtek merged with TriQuint.
Ray is a licensed certified public accountant and has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is on the board of directors of Form Factor, Inc. (NASDAQ: FORM), Electro Scientific Industries (NASDAQ: ESIO) and nLight Inc. He is also a Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors. He and his wife Jill Taylor moved to Santa Barbara from Portland in 2015.
Dr. Sohn is Smith Professor of Economics at California State University CI and serves on boards including NACD Southern California, Western Alliance Bancorporation and Claremont Graduate University. He was a commissioner at the Port of Los Angeles, the nation’s largest port.
Dr. Sohn was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hanmi Financial Corporation, a commercial bank in Los Angeles, California. Before joining Hanmi in 2005, Dr. Sohn was an Executive Vice President and Chief Economic Officer of Wells Fargo Banks.
Dr. Sohn was educated at the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard Business School.
Prior to his tenure at Wells Fargo, Dr. Sohn was a senior economist on the President's Council of Economic Advisors in The White House. He was responsible for economic and legislative matters pertaining to The Federal Reserve and financial markets. Dr. Sohn has also been a tenured college professor in Pennsylvania State University System.
He is the author of two books, Global Financial Crisis and Exit Strategy and The New Economy
In 2006, The Wall Street Journal featured a story naming Dr. Sohn as the most accurate economist in the United States. In 2010, the Journal named him as one of the five best forecasters in the country. In 2012, he ranked third. This is one of the most prestigious honors in economics profession. In 2002, he was named to the Time Magazine's Board of Economists. In 2001, Bloomberg News selected Dr. Sohn as one of the five most accurate forecasters in the United States. In 2002, Blue Chip Publications picked him as the most accurate forecaster for the Western States
He was chosen as one of the 100 most influential Minnesotans of the 20th century by the state’s largest daily newspaper, The Star Tribune. Others on the list included Charles Lindberg, Sinclair Lewis, Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale and Charles Schultz of the Peanuts Cartoon.
Dr. Sohn has served on the boards of Port of Los Angeles, First California Bancorporation, Ministers Mutual Life Insurance Company, L.A. Music Center (Performing Arts), Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles, Foreign Affairs Council of LA, Park Nicollet Health Services, The Blake School, Minnesota Community College System, North Memorial Medical Center, etc. Harvard Business School Association of Minnesota, Crystal Evangelical Free Church, Children's Theater Company and School, and the American Heart Association of Minnesota.
Susan L. Main is a director for Ashland Global Holdings Inc. (NYSE: ASH), a global provider of specialty chemical solutions. She serves on the audit committee and the governance and nominating committee. Susan is senior vice president and chief financial officer of Teledyne Technologies (NYSE: TDY), a leading provider of sophisticated instrumentation, digital imaging products and software, aerospace and defense electronics, and engineered systems. Prior to that position, she was vice president and controller of Teledyne, and vice president and controller for Water Pik Technologies, Inc… Earlier in her career, Susan held financial and auditing roles at the former Hughes Aircraft Company.
